Be Polite

If you are applying for a number of jobs and waiting be accepted to your dream position, when you finally secure an interview, you will probably be quite nervous. However, some people overcompensate when they are nervous and make jokes which sometimes put down themselves or other people.

While you may get away with these types of jokes when you are nervous about a first date, during an interview, they could be very inappropriate. Therefore, no matter how nervous you are, if you are one of these people who makes jokes to calm themselves, make sure you screen them before they come out of your mouth to make sure they are not potentially offensive to anyone.

Being polite may sound easy but when you are nervous, you can easily forget this simple skill. It is very important to remember to be polite and while you don’t have to fish around for compliments for your interviewer, you still want to appear as though you are on the ball.

Therefore, being polite can make sure you appear as though you really are taking this interview seriously and what you say will be taken seriously too. Making polite comments to the interviewer about your experience or their office will show you are mature and will be able to fit into their office well.

If you are trying to dispel some nervousness while you wait for your interview, make polite conversation with the receptionist as they will be curious to get to know the people they may be working with and their boss may even ask for their opinion on the applicants.

Therefore, it is a good idea to make a positive impression in the receptionist too, even if you just make small talk about the weather or the football, just show you are a decent person, even if you’re a bit nervous.
