Before the Interview

When you are preparing for an interview, it is normal to be a bit nervous. However, don’t let your nervousness ruin your chances of getting the job. There are a few important things you need to remember to do before your interview to help you appear calm, in control and as the perfect person for the job.

Firstly, even if you don’t feel that hungry, eat something before the interview. While you may not feel hungry before you leave, you have the drive to the interview, waiting for your interview to be called and the actual interview itself for your stomach to get through.

It is not only important for you to eat before your interview because it will deliver nutrients to your brain and help you stay focused and ask intelligent questions, it will also ensure that your stomach does not let off a loud grumble in the middle of the interview either.

Of course, if you are eating before your interview, you will have to make sure you have time to brush your teeth too. However, if you are going to the interview from your old job and don't have the opportunity to do your teeth, have a mint or some chewing gum to give your breath a good first impression.

Also if you have eaten before you interview in the clothes you are wearing to the interview, check them for spots and not just by looking down, stand in front of a mirror. You can’t generally see your entire front when you look at yourself as you may be crumpled in your chair for example. Therefore, check yourself out in a full length mirror for food, fluff and whether your pants are tucked into your socks or you have a ladder in the back of your stockings.
