Career Change

There are many reasons why you may be looking for a career change but you may be worried that the employers in your new field will not be interested in hiring you because you have no industry experience.

However, whether you are simply looking for a change of scenery, are moving to a new area where a different industry is stronger or are looking for a more flexible industry to work in, you have many transferable skills you can showcase to your potential employers.

For example, regardless of the industry you are going from you will have acquired excellent time management skills, even just to ensure you showed up at the office on time, and there are probably plenty of other examples you can include in your application.

If you have previous experience in a different industry, you have probably been in the workforce for a while and can show that you are a reliable and responsible person and these are skills which are easily transferable.

You can also probably include examples of your team work skills as you are likely to have worked in an office environment or even exhibited team working skills working with just your boss.

These are basic skills which anyone looking for new employees looks for so don’t be afraid to include examples of work in your previous industry to demonstrate these transferable skills.

It is also important when changing industries that you can answer the inevitable question from the interviewer about why you want to change. It is important to anticipate this question as the employer will be looking to see if you can make up for your lack of industry experience with your enthusiasm.
