Dress for the Interview

If you are lucky enough to get an interview, you want to make sure you do everything you can to make sure you make a good first impression and give yourself the best chance possible of securing the job.

Therefore, you need to spend just as much time selecting and putting together your interview outfit as you did writing, typing and formatting the perfect resume which got you the interview in the first place.

Interviewers have very little time in which to make a decision about their applicants and therefore, every second and every detail are important for you to make the right first impression.

You need to make sure your dress is appropriate and respectable, because while interviewers are not supposed to judge people by appearances, they can’t help it and do so unconsciously.

Therefore, try to dress in neutral colours, nothing too wild and confronting, as well as being neat, tidy and clean. Make sure you check yourself in a full length mirror before you leave for your interview to make sure you don’t have fluff on your shirt or mud on your slacks.

Also make sure to remember that you will be sitting down for the interview so make sure your interview outfit is practical. This not only means ensuring you don’t flash too much leg when you are sitting down, but also that you are wearing comfortable clothes you won’t have to keep adjusting and fidgeting with.

If you can, try to find out about the dress code of the company you are being interviewed by as even though your interviewer may not make the conscious connection, they will see that you fit in with the style and mood of their company perfectly.
