Inappropriate Interview Questions

While there are a number of questions you should be prepared to answer when you get an interview, there are also many things your employer will want to know about you, but are technically not allowed to ask you about.

There are very strict anti-discrimination laws surrounding interviewers and employers to ensure that everyone has an equal chance at securing their dream job. However, this does not stop employers wanting to know about these things anyway and some employers will put pressure on their interviewees who will feel they have to answer to get the job.

This is not the case and it is very unfair of the employer to ask you inappropriate questions in the interview. However, the interviewer probably still wants to know how old you are, about your sexuality, whether you are married and whether you have plans for a family in the future.

All you have to know is that you are not required to answer these types of questions as they have nothing to do with your ability to do the job you are applying for and your answers should not be allowed to affect how the interviewer views your suitability for the position.

However, you may be happy to answer these types of questions but just remember, if the interviewer and your potential employer are asking these sorts of questions in the interview, which are none of their business, are they going to pry into your private life during your employment too? Does this bother you? After all, we all remember how ‘The Firm’ ends.
