Long Distance Applications
There are many reasons you may be planning to move house; you may want more room for your family to grow up, you may want to be closer to your ageing parents or your partner may have gotten a great job in a different city.
Whatever the reason, you will probably need to find yourself a new job in the likely event that your current employer doesn’t have a sister office in the town you are moving to.
Therefore, you want to make finding a new job in your new home town as quick and easy as possible as you not only have the stress of moving house to deal with, you don’t want to be without an income for too long either.
To help with your long distance job search, use local job search sites and databases for the area you are moving to. This will help you build up some local knowledge about the types of companies looking for employees in your new neighbourhood.
For even more comprehensive local knowledge, talk to a local. If you are moving because of your family, you may have relatives or even friends close to your new home who will be able to pass on the local job searching resources.
When applying for those jobs, you may even be able to use the address of your relative of friend who is a local to ensure that your application is not dismissed and you can even stay with that person to be close by for an interview.
If you don’t know anyone in town, you will simply have to mention that you are planning to relocate and that you are willing to come down for an interview at any time. Or you may be part of a club or association from when you left uni which will have contacts around the country and can help put you in touch with those in your industry with positions available in your new area.
Also make sure that you consider the salaries being offered in your new town as while they may seem high, the cost of living may also be more expensive, or visa versa, but there are plenty of salary calculators available, or you can simply research rents and costs of living as you search for work.
